Course Description

This workshop is ideal for government professionals and others interested in utilizing survey questions to evaluate programs or support data-driven decision making.  In this hands-on workshop, you will learn and apply practices for designing effective survey questions. These practices will help you identify common errors found in survey design and how to fix those errors. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to receive and provide feedback to a fellow workshop attendee. Finally, you will learn the basics of survey programming through Microsoft Forms and best practices in disseminating surveys to get the responses you need. During three interactive sessions, you will practice writing, reviewing, and improving survey questions in preparation for building a survey that supports your goals. Additionally, you will learn strategies for disseminating surveys to achieve high response rates. Over the course of three 2.5 hour sessions, workshop attendees will be drafting and improving upon survey questions they plan to use for a project they are currently working on or will be working on.

Learner Outcomes

When you complete the workshop successfully, you will be able to:
  • Identify survey types and common errors that are made when building surveys. 
  • Craft different types of survey questions for different purposes. 
  • Incorporate best practices in survey dissemination to reduce survey burnout and increase your response rate.
  • Program surveys using Microsoft Forms
