Course Description

Objectives
MATLAB is a high-level language that enables you to quickly perform computation and visualization through easy-to-use programming constructs.

This is a three-day course. On the first and second days, the course provides hands-on experience with performing image analysis. Examples and exercises demonstrate the use of appropriate MATLAB® and Image Processing Toolbox™ functionality throughout the analysis process. On the third day, the course provides hands-on experience with performing computer vision tasks. Examples and exercises demonstrate the use of appropriate MATLAB® and Computer Vision System Toolbox™ functionality.

Computer (PC or Mac) and an internet access are required. Simultaneous access to two screens is highly recommended for best learning experience. Examples include one computer with two screens, one laptop and one tablet, two laptops, etc. A headset is also recommended.

Topics include

Image Processing (2-day)

  • Importing and exporting images
  • Removing noise
  • Aligning images
  • Detecting, extracting, and matching image features
  • Detecting edges, lines, and circles in an image
  • Segmenting objects based on their color and texture
  • Modifying objects' shape using morphological operations
  • Measuring shape properties
  • Performing batch analysis over sets of images

Computer Vision (1-day)

  • Importing, displaying, and annotating videos
  • Detecting objects in videos
  • Estimating motion of objects
  • Tracking a single object or multiple objects
  • Removing lens distortion and measuring planar objects

Class size is limited to 25 students.

Prerequisites

MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB*. Basic knowledge of image processing and computer vision concepts.

*For registrants who have not taken MATLAB Fundamentals and are unsure about their experience qualifications, email at registration@faes.org to request for free MATLAB skills assessment test.

Course Materials
This workshop is offered by MathWorks, the developer of MATLAB.  Each attendee receives e-files of the course manual, a unique code to login to a virtual lab, and a link to join the WebEx.

FAES will share your email address as provided during the registration process with MathWorks who will grant you temporary MATLAB access.

Certificates of Completion
Certificates of completion from MathWorks are emailed to all attendees at the end of each course.

Continuing Education Units
Although no grades are given for courses, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours. One CEU is equal to ten contact hours. Upon completion of the course, each participant will receive a certificate for 2.1 CEUs.

Refund Policy
100% tuition refund for registrations cancelled 14 or more days prior to the start of the workshop.
50% tuition refund for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 days prior to the start of the workshop.
No refund will be issued for registrations cancelled 3 days or less prior to the start of the workshop.

Notification
All cancellations must be received in writing via email to Ms. Carline Coote at registrar@faes.org.
Cancellations received after 4:00 PM on business days are time marked for the following day.
All refund payments will be processed by the start of the initial workshop.
