Course Description

Computer (PC or Mac) and an internet access are required. Simultaneous access to two screens is highly recommended for best learning experience. Examples include one computer with two screens (preferred), two laptops, one laptop and one tablet, etc. A headset is also recommended.

Objectives
MATLAB is a high-level language that enables you to quickly perform computation and visualization through easy-to-use programming constructs.

This two-day workshop focuses on data analytics and machine learning techniques in MATLAB® using functionality within Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox™ and Deep Learning Toolbox™. The workshop demonstrates the use of unsupervised learning to discover features in large data sets and supervised learning to build predictive models. Examples and exercises highlight techniques for visualization and evaluation of results. Topics include:

  • Organizing and preprocessing data
  • Clustering data
  • Creating classification and regression models
  • Interpreting and evaluating models
  • Simplifying data sets
  • Using ensembles to improve model performance

Class size is limited to 25 students.

Prerequisites

MATLAB Fundamentals or equivalent experience using MATLAB*. Basic knowledge of image processing and computer vision concepts.

BIOF 090 | MATLAB Fundamentals

*For registrants who have not taken MATLAB Fundamentals and are unsure about their experience qualifications, email at registrar@faes.org to request for free MATLAB skills assessment test.

Workshop Materials
Each attendee receives e-files of the workshop manual, a unique code to login to a virtual lab, and a link to join the WebEx.

FAES will share your email address as provided during the registration process with MathWorks who will grant you temporary MATLAB access.

Certificates of Completion
Certificates of completion from MathWorks are emailed to all attendees at the end of each workshop.

Continuing Education Units
Although no grades are given for workshops, each participant will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) based on the number of contact hours. One CEU is equal to ten contact hours. Upon completion, each participant will receive a certificate for 1.4 CEUs.

Refund Policy
100% tuition refund for registrations cancelled 14 or more days prior to the start of the workshop.
50% tuition refund for registrations cancelled between 4 to 13 days prior to the start of the workshop.
No refund will be issued for registrations cancelled 3 days or less prior to the start of the workshop.

Notification
All cancellations must be received in writing via email to Ms. Carline Coote at registrar@faes.org.
Cancellations received after 4:00 PM on business days are time marked for the following day.
All refund payments will be processed by the start of the initial workshop.
