Course Description

The goal of this course is to develop effective science presentation skills for various audiences. Each week, students will identify good examples of scientific presentations, implement strategies that are relevant to their research, practice presenting, and receive instructor and peer feedback. The structured accountability, practice opportunities, and targeted feedback from this course are designed to help you prepare for formal presentation settings such as conferences, symposia, and interviews. Speaking about science effectively is a critical language skill for getting your research message across clearly in diverse settings throughout your career.

Learner Outcomes

When you complete the course successfully, you will be able to:

  • Clearly deliver your message in an oral presentation for an expert audience.
  • Clearly deliver your message in an oral presentation for a non-expert educated audience.
  • Clearly deliver in an easy-to-understand talk for a general public audience.
  • Effectively use appealing and clear visuals while you speak.
  • Answer questions to spark interest and collaboration.
