Course Description

Through this course, you will gain practice planning and producing useful visualizations in R.  Through active engagement in the weekly exercises and discussions, you will gain the skills necessary to follow, reproduce, and create workflows for data visualization in R. You will learn the “language” of data structures and plots to communicate precisely about your analyses,  describing various data formats, data manipulation methods, and visualization types. By completing each week’s module materials, you will gain familiarity with various methods of interfacing with R including the terminal, RStudio, and Jupyter Notebooks.

You will learn material by watching introductory videos; reading supporting documentation; writing, executing, and reviewing code; and discussing your workflows with classmates.  Assignments will include: completing weekly quizzes, conducting interactive coding labs on DataCamp, writing reflections, reviewing code of peers, publishing a data exploration and visualization project.
This course requires a time commitment of about 6 hours/week to learn new concepts and reinforce previous material. Most of your time will be spent actively writing and testing R code.

Learner Outcomes

When you complete the course successfully, you will be able to:

  • Communicate effectively about preparing and visualizing data
