In the knowledge economy, we create value using projects and project teams. Advanced Project Management Fundamentals is the second in the series of courses developed for the Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (FAES).

This class builds on the foundational knowledge from the Project Management Essentials course. In Essentials, students learn how to plan and execute a project. In this course, they discover how to structure and organize the project for success. Best practices for managing programs and portfolios and advanced Agile are also part of the curriculum.

This course is recommended for students that:

  • Have taken Project Management Essentials or have extensive project management experience and want to expand their knowledge and formal training, or
  • Are interested in taking the Project Management Professional (PMP®) exam.

This course was designed for virtual delivery and includes formal instruction, interactive in-class exercises, and outside-of-class group projects. Students are strongly encouraged to share their experiences and participate in class discussions. To reinforce the formal learning, students are assigned two group case study assignments.

Objectives
This course provides advanced training on core topics of project, program, and portfolio planning and execution, and agile project management.

As defined in the Project Management Institute’s Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide®, the course leverages critical concepts and processes, an ANSI standard. Practical “best practices” and guides are also incorporated.

At the end of the class, participants will have the skills to initiate, plan, execute, and monitor a project. Participants will learn how to work more effectively with their teams and engage their stakeholders.
